Delta Force - Black Hawk Down Team Sabre [GOG] PC
due to the issues with the original, this is a different game. the original black hawk down is about a war in afghanistan. this game takes place in 1995 and is about a hit squad in columbia. the missions are a bit different and there is no multiplayer.
if it were a movie, delta force - black hawk down: team sabre would be a jerry bruckheimer production. of course, the movie that team sabre is based on was a bruckheimer production, but this expansion pack has more in common with bruckheimer's wildly over-the-top bad boys ii than with the grittily authentic black hawk down. team sabre may not be realistic, but it's packed with explosions, wild gunfights, and quite a bit of fun--though it's also extremely frustrating at times, due to a limited save system coupled with some excruciatingly difficult gameplay.
the original black hawk down was a major hit, partly because it was a departure from the gameplay of previous delta force games. here, the black hawk down universe is basically set aside and that's a good thing. the game is much more reminiscent of the mission: impossible movies than it is of black hawk down, especially the tom cruise-led second and third films. the basic gameplay of an action shooter is never really threatened, but it's still good. the game has a lot of potential, but it's not given a fair shot because there is too little content.
like the original game, team sabre holds up well after its fifteen-year-old release date. black hawk down's surprisingly slick visuals, imaginative environments, and inventive, over-the-top shooting are still intact. the voice acting is also very good, if a bit cheesy. the world's finest bad guys are consistently on the screen and in the lead in team sabre. they always look like they belong in a bond movie, with their close-cropped hair, long-sleeved, button-down shirts, and flared trousers. and they make good use of their surroundings. all the cool guns in the world can't stop them from throwing grenades at you from behind walls, or firing rpg rockets into your approaching helicopter. they are even more than just enemies, with the occasional mob of civilians thrown into the mix.
